In The Wrong Lane!
I went to the grocery store early Sunday morning to grab a couple of things and headed to the express lane. I stopped short when I saw a woman checking out of that lane with a full cart of groceries.

Loathe The Speakerphone

I am the type of person who normally does not like to talk on the phone. I get very agitated when I make a one on one phone call to someone and they put me on speakerphone. For one thing, you cannot hear someone clearly when they use the speakerphone and it picks up a lot of background noise. Also, the conversation can be heard by anyone near the person you are talking to. I don't like that invasion of privacy. I used to work in an office where lawyers close to my desk would have conversations with their client on the speakerphone. You could listen to the whole conversation and I don't think that is appropriate.
As soon as someone answers their phone, I immediately know when I am on speakerphone and I will always ask that they take me off it. I don't care who I am talking to. My sister-in-law used to always call me on speakerphone until one day I said to take me off it. Maybe that's why she doesn't call me much anymore. The only time that I will talk on speakerphone is when there is a need for the conversation to be heard by more than one person like in a business meeting. Otherwise, I think that if a person wants to speak with you on the speakerphone that they should ask for your permission to do so out of courtesy.

Texting and Driving

The other day I was on the highway driving in the slow lane when I noticed a van in the fast lane who kept cutting into my lane. It was pouring rain out so visibility was really reduced and I was being extra cautious to watch every vehicle around me. This guy was driving too slow for the fast lane to begin with and I finally passed him. I thought he must either be tired, drunk, or talking on the phone. I looked over and sure enough he was looking down at his phone and it appeared that he was texting. A few minutes later he passed me and there he was again looking down at his phone typing away. It is scary to think that people are doing this even during a rain or snow storm. I have tried texting on my phone and I admit I am not very good at it because I am so used to the computer keyboard. I couldn't possibly imagine trying to text someone while I was driving. I wonder how many teenagers who are newly licensed are texting and driving as well?
Hopefully the new ban on cell phone use in your car in Ontario will make the roads safer.

We Should Have Right to Choose
I was reading a post on another forum from a mother who was heartbroken because her son was calling her daycare provider "mommy" and would run into her arms when she dropped him off in the morning and then didn't want to come home at night. She felt so guilty because she has to work and can't afford to stay at home. I have been both a working mom and a stay at home mom and my heart goes out to her. The majority of moms work because they can't afford to stay at home and some of these women are probably the breadwinners in the family. It has always been my opinion that mothers should be able to choose whether or not they want to stay at home with their preschool children. I feel that the government needs to pay mothers of preschoolers something for staying at home and that being a stay at home mom should be recognized as a career choice because in my experience, staying at home has been the hardest job I have ever done.

Laundry
I like doing laundry but I am getting frustrated because my clothes don't come out smelling nice. I have tried putting fabric softener in the rinse cycle but it leaves stains on my dark clothes. I just want my clothes to smell fresh! Any suggestions are welcome.

Tired of Housecleaning
I am tired of being in the house all day just cooking and doing housework. It has been so cold and snowy here that I haven't been getting outside enough. I long for the sunny days of summer when I get open the windows and air out the house and take the kids to the beach. It seems that it does not matter how long or hard I work at keeping up to the housework that it is never done. There are always dirty dishes, dirty floors, and dirty clothes piling up or clean clothes waiting to be folded. Being at home full time has taught me that my work is never done. I need to find a way to get a break from this rut! Wish I could afford to go on vacation!
