The Kissing Hand

Another book that my children love is The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. It is about a little racoon named Chester who is anxious about going to school for the first time and being apart from his mother. This is a great book for a child to read to help with separation anxiety. When my first son went to daycare he used to get me to kiss the palm of both of his hands before I left him. I used to wonder why he did this until one day the daycare provider showed me this book. I find the story to be very heartwarming. My other son's kindergarten teacher also read this book to his class on the first day of kindergarten. Not only does it help the child but I also think it helps mom as well!
