We Should Have Right to Choose

I was reading a post on another forum from a mother who was heartbroken because her son was calling her daycare provider "mommy" and would run into her arms when she dropped him off in the morning and then didn't want to come home at night. She felt so guilty because she has to work and can't afford to stay at home. I have been both a working mom and a stay at home mom and my heart goes out to her. The majority of moms work because they can't afford to stay at home and some of these women are probably the breadwinners in the family. It has always been my opinion that mothers should be able to choose whether or not they want to stay at home with their preschool children. I feel that the government needs to pay mothers of preschoolers something for staying at home and that being a stay at home mom should be recognized as a career choice because in my experience, staying at home has been the hardest job I have ever done.

  1. While in theory this sounds great think of the expense. This would make more and more women stay at home. This would close day cares and put people out of business. I know it seems silly but take a moment and think about the economic effects of what you are proposing! Staying at home is the hardest thing that I have ever done as well. The trouble comes with that being a life choice. No one else should have to pay me to be a mom. Perhaps a tax break would not have as large of an impact. With any of this you will upset someone some where!

  2. I don't feel that this would close daycares and put people out of business. Women at higher income levels who are breadwinners would probably still choose to work and some women earning lower incomes may still choose to work because they don't want to stay at home. It would free up daycare spots and may cost the government less in subsidized daycare or at least balance out with what the government would be paying to stay at home moms.

  3. I agree with Anonymous.

Just because you'd get paid to stay at home doesnt mean every mother (Father) would. I know a few moms who choose to work.
